Timing Belt question – 2003 Subaru Forester?
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester with 101,000 miles on it. For the last 30,000 miles I have asked Subaru about the timing belt and they repeatedly tell me that it doesn’t need to be changed until 105,000 miles. Does this seem right? I have always been told that the timing belt should be changed anywhere from 60,000 – 80,000 miles. Is there something special about Subaru’s timing belt, or do service depts. put too much emphasis on when the timing belt needs to be changed? Thanks in advance, I am just confused and on eggshells thinking that the timing belt can go at any time.
The Gates timing belt listing below confirms the 105,000 mile change interval, but also notes that you have an interference type engine that suffers serious damage if the belt breaks. So get the belt changed now in my opinion.
