The subject of car insurance has become a hot topic over recent years; many of us now compare car insurance quotes from a number of providers before buying a car, let alone arranging insurance. Motoring is getting increasingly expensive too with petrol and diesel prices soaring in the past year or two as well as proposed tax increases for inefficient vehicles or “gas guzzlers” as they’re referred to.
So this means that our choice of car is more vital than ever, we want to buy a car that we can afford to buy but more importantly; can afford to run. In a second article I am going to cover the top ten cars that are cheap to insure but in this article I am covering the polar opposite: The most expensive cars to insure, these cars may have astronomical price tags but they also carry large insurance quotes too:
10. Chevrolet Cobalt, Two Door – An American sporty car that looks not unlike modern Vauxhall Astras, sporty models of this car are said to have high insurance costs.
9. Mitsubishi Eclipse – The Eclipse is most famous for being one of the many cars Paul Walker drives in the movie “The Fast and The Furious”, a newer model has since been released and many of the film’s fans have bought an Eclipse with ambitions to give it a Fast and Furious makeover, all these add-ons that people add to the car will increase the insurance costs drastically.
8. Suzuki Forenza – This car is a more sensible looking car than the sports cars that are on this list but is still up there for insurance costs due to large engine sizes and horsepower.
7. Nissan Sentra SE-R – The SE-R spec version of this car is a popular with ricers (racers who modify cheap cars with aftermarket parts) and as well as this there are a number of faults known in the car owner community to do with this model that make it prone to needing a repair every now and then!
6. Acura RSX – Acura are a sub division of Honda and this car is derived from many of the Type-R parts of the popular Honda Civic cars, put under a new body it’s a very popular sporty car and ranks high on the number of collisions lists which no doubt gave it it’s place in the middle of this table.
5. Scion 1c – This car is in this list for one obvious statistic: the Scion 1C has the youngest demographic of drivers, with 35% of drivers being under 25. Younger drivers are always more expensive to insure due to bad habits and lack of experience so unfortunately the Scion has high insurance policies for anyone else too.
4. Mitsubishi Lancer – A personal favourite of mine the Lancer is a popular rallying and racing car from Japan. The Lancer Evolution series is a popular high end rallying car along with the Subaru Impreza and both share high numbers of collisions reported, hence higher car insurance.
3. Hyundai Tiburon – The Tiburon of the Hyundai Coupe as it is known in most other markets is a fairly common sports compact car. Similar in appearance to the Toyota Celica it is this high on the list due to its popularity as a fast affordable car.
2. Subaru Impreza WRX 4WD – This model is much like the Mitsubishi, it’s an over powered rally car that many people take joy in driving at great speed with the tasteful blue paint and gold wheel rims combination. Popular with young drivers even the older models have high instances of insurance claims being made and so has skyrocketed the car to the top of this list.
1. Cadillac Escalade EXT 4WD – This car/Sports Utility Vehicle is associated with celebrities more than any car and can always been seen on MTV’s Cribs programme. The Escalade is not only one of the most expensive cars to insure but also most likely to cause massive damage to your car if your unfortunate enough to be crashed into by one of these behemoths.
So there you have it, the most expensive cars to insure based on the overall costs paid out by insurers over 2004-2006. Whilst not the most recent of studies it has taken some time to gather all the data plus a lot of these costs have come as a result of thefts too.
The old adage of “if you have nice things then there are people who will find them desirable enough to steal” remains true, the Escalade especially is such an expensive vehicle that if you were to make a claim based on it being stolen then the insurers will no doubt be sweating over the cost to replace your car.
The majority of these cars do cost a lot to insure but if you were to compare car insurance providers then there may be a chance that you can get cheap car insurance for your car instead of accepting what the first provider offers you.
If you are looking for car insurance or need to find a better deal then check online with many insurers to find the best car insurance quotes for your particular needs. Check with your motor insurance to see if you can make a saving on your car insurance.
