What is approx. cost to repair timing chain on 2004 Subaru Outback LL Bean V6?
I’ve been told by a mechanic acquaintance (who says the job is too big for him to do at his home) that my timing chain needs to be replaced. Any rough ideas, worst case scenarios, as to cost? Should I go to the dealer or not? It’s past the warranty period.
Dealer will cost substantially more. I got a timing belt done on my 97 Legacy about a year ago and it was $700, plus they had to replace a pulley so I would say ballpark around $300-$500. Get a couple different quotes as you might find a better deal.
