What is a reasonable repair estimate for replacement of the rear brake assembly on a 1999 Subaru Forester?
I admit I’m a Subi newbie, having owned this car for nearly a year.
My mechanic gave me a parts and labor estimate of $780.00, but lowered it to just under $500.00 after I said this was a little high. They quoted me $274.00 just for the parts alone — drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders.
I found these parts online, not OEM, but made by Centric and PBR, in the $150.00 to $200.00 range.
What is the average repair estimate (if any) to have these parts replaced, and how long does it usually take to replace them? I would appreciate this or any other advice you can give me. Thanks.
You’re probaly looking at about $500 – $600 dollars. That’s for rear brake shoes, rear brake wheel cylinders and rear brake drums. It takes about 2 1/2 – 3 hours
