subaru legacy swap to B4 twin turbo?
okay, so i have a 1999 subaru legacy GT. it’s a 2.5 litre engine and i want to put a 2.0 litre twin turbo B4 engine in my car. would i have any transmission problems because of the change in litres? what would i have to do about my ecu? (i asked this question before but didn’t get specific enough details so im asking again)
the reason why i want to do this swap is because it is MUCH cheaper than an sti swap. the b4 engine is only about $1,000.
The tranny is not the problem. The issue you will run into is that the steering column on the US cars will be in the way of the left side turbo. It’s actually pretty tricky to work around and takes a lot of customization. Another issue is the ECU out of the B4′s are not going to be emissions compliant in the US. Did you not wonder why no body does this swap? It’s because there are so many good engines available here in the US so it’s not worth the hassle. Plus modern turbo’s spool so quick now that you can make more power out of one good sized turbo than two tiny ones.
