Jeep Grand Cherokee 2001 is it reliable? Owners or someone who drove one reply. I am looking to get a second vehicle. My current is a Subaru, and as far as reliability, this has no problems, at all. Now, I want another good car, but want to go American made. Are there any problems with these Jeeps that I need to check before I get it. I have decided to get it, so what if any issues should I check for, and how do I figure it out by looking at the car? This is a 2wd 6 cylinder. I haven’t heard anyone complain about these, which is why I chose it. I only go JEEP or SUBARU. Oh, yeah, and how much would you pay for one with around 100k miles on it. I know it should be good for at least another 5 years, right?
Our 01 GC has been a good car, especially since my wife drives it like a sportscar. Keep a check on your coolant level, this model year had a head problem where a crack would develop between cylinders 3 and 4 and coolant would burn and/or leak into the oil. We had this fixed under warranty and with the miles on yours you should be over that hump. The auto tranny started slipping in and out of overdrive a bit and this was fixed by changing the switching selenoids in the tranny. Otherwise you may need a coil pack change if it starts to run rough (will show up as an engine code) and the power window actuators have been replaced. Otherwise we have had good service and a highly recommend this vehicle. Good Luck!
