Will Subaru’s Coolant Conditioner resolve my problem?
I have a ’02 Legacy Outback 2.5L with 89K. I am sure it has the phase II engine. I have a Coolant problem that Service Bulliten WWP-99 covers due to the sweet smell of burning Coolant, slow loss ofthe Coolant fill from the tank, and very,very light exterior antifreeze drippings from the bottom of the engine. Will the Coolant Conditioner definetly help me out until I can afford to do the head gaskets or is this a too late thing for my Subaru? And if I were to add the treatment in and later on decide on a flush and fill, do I need to add more of the treatment in after each time a coolant flush is done?

If it is leaking coolant then it is already too late. Don’t drive your car or you risk warping the cylinder bores. The coolant conditioner bulletin was dated for use back when your car was 2 – 3 years old and is therefore a time sensitive measure. The use of non Subaru coolant causes the deterioration of the headgaskets and thus the leaks. This engine is all aluminum and must use the proper coolant with the proper additives. Also the bulletin states that the coolant additive is a first measure only and not a fix. But for $4 a bottle, it can’t make things any worse than they are.
