Electrical Problems 2001 Subaru Legacy Outback?
2001 Legacy Outback wagon. Driving with lights, heater, wipers, and CD on. Battery and brake warning lights came on. After a few miles other warning lights started coming on, tach and speedometer quite, lights dimmed, wipers stopped and eventually car died. After setting for about an hour it started and I drove it for about 4 miles with everthing shut off and it died agin. Repeated this once more and had made it home. Have taken alternator off and it checked out okay. Mechanic at Subaru suggested I change the battery. I did and still have battery and brake light on. What could my problem be?
To me, it sounds like a classic case of an alternator failing. Has it run for a long time after the battery was changed out? I think you will end up with the same problem again shortly if you don’t change out the alternator.
