2008 Subaru WRX modifications…?
I just bought a 2008 Subaru WRX (No, not the STI, I wanted the sedan). Although the naysayers have all jumped on the “OH, I hate it!” bandwagon, I personally love it. Yes, the 2009 has 40 more horses, but I got a good deal on it because it is the end of the model year. Anyhow, I want to throw a cold air intake and new exhaust on it, which should put it well over the 2009 model’s performance range. What other mods are recommended? I don’t want to switch-out the turbos, way too expensive.
The intake and exhaust will not give you anywhere near the 09 power without tuning. You need some king of engine management To control the boost and fueling to make power with any mods. With just the intake and exhaust, you might make another 15hp. Maybe. Add some tuning and you can easily double that and much more reliably. Now if you are getting a tune, you might as well add the down pipe like the guy above stated but only if you are getting it tuned. All together, these mods should put you closer to STI power but more torque. I would find a tuner in your area to talk to as far as your goals and budget and he should suggest the best path to take. There are many kinds of engine management out there and different tuners use different programs so it’s best to pick a tuner and find out what he works with. And one last thing. Do not neglect suspension while you get caught up in the power game. I would get that out of the way before starting with any power mods. Get used to the car and learn to control it first.
