subaru engines for vw
1967 vw bug engines types?

what kind of engines will fit in it like a porsche , subaru? vw bus what cc and what would be best like for more power and cheaper and easyer

It all depends on what you have to spend and your final desired out come.
I drive a 1973 VW Thing that I am installing a 2.0 supercharged Eco tec water pumper (Same engine in the Chevy Cobalt SS) engine into. It will be mounted to a Mendiola trans axle for strength. I ran the same engine in a dune buggy and it was the quickest vehicle I have ever owned, but it killed bus trans axles that were built to handle power.

As far as cheaper, a VW 1915 is the largest non stroked engine you can build for “cheap”. A long block will cost about $1000 and you can bolt on most of your stock parts. i would run a larger carb though.

If you want to step it up, go with a stroked engine like a 2332. A long block would cost roughly $2500 for a decent start.

You can jump up to a type IV that will bolt right in, but they are even more expensive and you would need the porsche fan shroud ($800) so it will fit.

A subaru will bolt in with an adapter (advanced adapters, about $900 with clutch) and a different oil pan (outback makes them), but you will have to mount a radiator and install a built transmission.

A 1641cc type I is a stock 1600 with a tad bit larger barrels that bolt right into place. You can find a long block for $450 and everything you already have will work with it.

The best thing to do is figure out what you have to spend and go from there.
The sky is the limit!
