Subaru “98 engine light went on after gas up question?
My ’98 Subaru Legacy engine light went one just moments after I filled it with gas. I am wondering if there is a connection or it is something more serious. As I removed the gas nozzle from the pump, gas spilled out all over the outside of the gas entry hole, I had not even pressed the handle yet, so I am wondering if this spill might have set off a sensor? I did have a problem 4 years ago and it was a gas cap issue back then and the code was reset. But, I am more concern now as the car has 150, 000 miles on it. Anyways, anyone know if the gas splash could have set off a sensor. Whoever used the gas before me apparently did not empty all the gas in the nozzle or something.
I just had the codes reset, however after a 20 mile drive the check engine light is back on.
The mechanic thinks it is a gas cap issue,
or something in the fuel line but not sure. I am taking it to an authorized Subaru
dealer to get it check out to be certain.
The guy’s above may be correct. A loose gas cap could set the light off but there is only one way to know for sure and that’s to have the code read. The code will tell you exactly what tripped the light. I think that maybe the over filling has caused the evaporation system to read faulty.
