2004 Subaru Legacy noise?
I have a 2004 subaru legacy w/ 94,000 miles on it. It is an manual/standard transmission. I have been hearing a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing going out. I stripped off the passengerside (where the noise is) hub and found that the wheel bearing was fine, Upon further inspection I found that the inner CV boot was leaking and those bearings had made a groove in the metal boot that connected to the front diff.
I replaced the whole axel on the passenger side and see that the noise is still happening, it’s a clunking noise that is very appearant when slightly turning to the left/right at higher speeds ( 45 + mph).
I know it’s not the brakes cause they were inspected as well and are fine. I also took a shot at rotating the tires in hopes that they were unbalanced but that isn’t the case either.
I was looking for any advise/suggestions. I don’t want to take it into the shop cause they bend you over.
You still have three axles left. Sounds like another is beginning to wear out.
