It is unbelievable to note that the usage of water as a fuel dates back to 1805. The first internal combustion engine powered by hydrogen derived from water adds to the above fact.

Swiss inventor Isaac de Rivaz invented the first internal combustion engine in the year 1805 whereas the gasoline was discovered only in 1870′s. So, it is quite clear that the first car powered by internal combustion engine was running on water.

In 1860, the great Belgian inventor Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir further developed the internal combustion engine using electrolysis process. He built a one cylinder two stroke internal combustion engine that turned water into combustible hydrogen fuel. This was the first smog free vehicle operated by the renewable free “water” as fuel.

In 1998, Stan Meyer exposed his dune baggy inventions to the public, which was running on hydrogen/oxygen fuels using on board electrolysis containing only water. His inventions created an interest among the public as well as from the Defense force.

Unfortunately, he expired on March 27, 1998 in Grove City, Ohio. High blood pressure leading to brain aneurysm were the reasons stated by the Franklin County coroner for his death. But the cause of his death and his dune baggy inventions still remains a mystery?

Anyway, we all know that some of his patents had expired in June 2007. But till now, there is no one to replicate his experiments and create an internal combustion engine running completely on water.

But, how many of us know that in 2008, thousands of people and companies have developed a reasonable technology alike Stan Meyer’s electrolysis process and are using hydrogen derived from burning water along with gas to fuel their cars and trucks and improve their vehicle’s mileage.
