Opinion Please: M3, GTO, or WRX?

I’m 19 years old, and looking to get a new car <$27.5k. I'm down to either a NEW subbie WRX(sedan), used E46 BMW M3, or used LS2 Pontiac GTO. Gas mileages, insurance, 0-60, and 1/4 are all comparable...so it comes to intangibles. Everyone tells me to get the Subaru for practicality's sake (college), but the beemer looks SO damn sexy, and the GTO is a straight up beast and in limited production. Opinions??
by the way, I have a clean driving record with no accidents or traffic violations in 3+ years of being insured. I've done valet work and consider myself "reasonably" responsible with a car. Thanks for your posts!

Well putting the GTO aside which is just really a JAFOC (Just Another F*cking Ordinary Commodore) underneath with an American (read: worse) badge, you have yourself a very hard decision. The M3 certainly has the power, but the ‘Rex has the POTENTIAL for power.

What makes this a hard decision though is that they’re both brilliant driver’s cars, with the E46 M3 being the highest-regarded M3 in terms of its performance and drive, not to mention one of the best straight-6s ever built.

The WRX sedan isn’t as pretty nor does it have the power (220hp compared to about 300hp I believe), but as far as exhaust notes go you can’t get much better for a reasonably-priced vehicle. Really though you’d be better picking up a used, slightly older STi, which is more comparable to the M3′s performance, and better looking. An ’04-’07 model would do fine, and they have 300hp on tap (some have more than that and are limited edition models), and the stock suspension tune and tyres are absolutely superb.

Really it’s a case of whether you want AWD (WRX) or RWD (M3). WRX is quicker off the line, and you have more traction in winter climes than the M3, but if you live somewhere warm and are going for both looks AND performance, then really you can’t look past the E46. The WRX fulfills the latter but not really the former, and the GTO is only really good for straight line performance (which it has in spades, but that’s not very useful for everyday driving or track use)
