How do I put a replacement Starter in my 1999 Subaru Outback?
Just bought a new starter and need to install it MYSELF. How do you do this? Please provide a link if you have one. Thanks, and name your source please!
1. Take off the negative battery channel.
2. Unscrew the two bolts that holding the starter, You may able to get one top easily, the bottom is pain, unless you can work under the car.
3. Make sure you mark which cable is which, the subaru in your year should have two cables run to the starter, PLEASE mark them and then put it back as it is wired (or you will mess up a big time). The starter may have extra plug which is not important, but the Denzo starter (OEM) should be identical to the one in your car. You may need to put some anti-cease gel around the terminals.
4. Carefully put it back to the place and tighten the bolts.
Unfortunately, I forgot the torque for the bolts, but just tighten it up should be okay.
5. Put back the negative terminal to the battery, done.
