trailering or carrying my 2 motorcycles in truck?
i have a ninja 600 (460 lbs) and my gf has a gs500f (400 lbs). i have to transport the two bikes around 500 miles each way 2-3 times a year in my s-10. its an ext cab v-6 2wd and i dont like the way it feels with all that weight in it. i know it can carry it but i just dont like it. i only get like 10 mpg when i have them in the truck. i also commute 50 miles roundtrip daily so i need a better vehicle on gas. i was thinking of buying a subaru or a 4cyl truck for my next vehicle and just getting a trailer for the bikes and tow them. which is a better idea?
PS- I NEED BETTER MPG TOO
Hauling two bikes is almost always going to kill your mileage. I have done it both ways, trailer and truck. One solution is to go diesel. I have a buddy who hauls one or two dirt bikes behind a diesel Beetle on an aluminum trailer, and gets around 40mpg. Another option is to get a tow vehicle big enough that the eight can’t kill the mileage. another buddy puts three bikes in a 10cyl Econoline, and gets 20 mpg whether he is loaded or not. I often think a Sprinter van would make the ideal bike hauler.
