Looking to get a used Subaru, some questions for the experienced ?
It will be my first car I’m 17. I’m not looking to get something fast like a WRX, I just need something reliable, and good to drive in the snow. I was thinking of getting an AWD Legacy or Impreza from mid 90s to early 2000s. Is more than 150,000 miles a lot for a 15 year old Subaru? Are they known to last? Thanks in advance.
I would not let the mileage worry me as long as the seller has proof of all scheduled maintenance. There is a risk buying any car really but if taken care of, Subaru’s can outlast most other cars out there. In fact it was on a Yahoo list of cars that just seem to last forever. Make sure you have some money put aside after buying a car. What I mean is, If you have $5000 to buy a car with, your budget should be $4500. No matter how nice the car is and how good it runs, you never know when the clutch will go or if you blow a tire and they need to be replaced. Another good thing about Subaru’s is that they all shared parts back then. So the year car you are looking for uses a lot of parts that was also used in the Impreza and Forester so parts are actually cheap and easy to find used. I really think it’s a good choice for a cheap reliable first car.
